Hi all,
I have been feeling a bit concerned lately about my increasing forgetfulness. I continually forget things I plan to do or say. The other week I was expecting a delivery of mtx inj. I remembered in the morning when I got up, an hr later forgot all about it and went out!! I have been reading on the Living with R.A. site that it can be a side effect of ra. Just wondering if anyone else feels that this may be so. It was suggested that it may be due to tiredness caused by lack of sleep. I have been putting it down to age, but as I'm "only" 61, I have been a bit worried. I thought that perhaps the drugs may not help either. Has anyone any ideas about it or am I really just getting old, and not wanting to admit it???!!!

Hi Zena - I'm 54 and starting to realise that mental faculties do fade a bit with age. My kids sent me a great card, and that was a year or so back - I must try and dig it out to show you all. As Dorothy says when the RA is active it tends to occupy my thoughts and virtually take over, so I'm even more forgetful and doolally than usual!!

I keep a notebook now and my diary is essential and even so I regularly forget appointments (especially with the dentist for some reason --ooops). THe diary is brill if I remember to look at it!!! Which reminds me, I've just checked and discover that I promised to make some special cupcakes for my slimming world buddies, so must dash

All the best - Sylvia xxxx

Hi Zena,
I'm the same, I think when us ladies get to a certain age our memories start to play tricks.
I can go to the cupboard for something and stand there like an idiot not knowing what I went for. I also put things in perculiar places, tea towel in the bin for example.
My sister who is 7 years older than me always said my time would come, as she has done the same kind of things.
I also make lists now just as a little reminder lol.

Thanks all, its good to know that I'm not on my own here!!!
I have found myself lying awake at night, in those worry, worry twilight hours, thinking about it and testing myself trying to remember daft things, eg. the names of characters in the tv. The thing is I've never been very good at remembering peoples names anyway, not good when I really need to sleep!!!
Reading through this, it sure sounds as if I'm losing the plot, hopefully I'll just get back to counting sheep!!! only joking!

Me too (I'm 55)

I've been writing lists and reminders for a while.

My latest is when I go out, I have to go back to check if I've switched things off, locked doors etc.

As you say- blame it on the menopause, ageing. My mum always used to remind me that I was getting older!!!!

I think that when I was in a severe flare up I was affected cognitively. I can remember getting really upset when i tried to fix my computer and looked at the wires at the back to check them. I'd recently completed my ECDL computer qualification and was used to the wires, understood what each one was and what its function was and how it should be connected to other hardware. However when I looked it on this occasion it just seemed like a tangled mass of incomprehensible spaghetti. I'm not as 'addled' now (at least I hope not) but I do worry about the effect of inflammation on cognitive function (commonly called 'brain fog'). You might have my joints RA but please leave my mind alone!
